Such a vile day, blowing a gale and raining like the devil.  We really must not complain though.  The winter has been wonderful up to now.  I can imagine what France is like now.  I was thinking this afternoon about that first winter.  Really even now it is a nightmare.  Most of the days just like to-day.  Heavens, we have a lot to be thankful for.  Now if Hun begins to strafe we turn loose a merry little hell on him.  Then, there was no reply at all….”

During January and February the Macedonian front remained quiet from the British point of view.
