GWL 6th December 1916

That is really a charming photograph.  Thank you so much; it is just what I wanted.  We have just had two awfully awful days.  Raining hard and blowing a full gale.  Early this morning the mess tent blew down & we were all of us up most of the night trying to keep our own tents from collapse. Most unpleasant altogether”

On this day Bucharest capitulated to German cavalry units under the command of General von Falkenhayn.  On the 4th December Prime Minister Asquith resigned to be replaced on 7th December by Lloyd George.  Meanwhile the 2nd Gloucesters were involved in intense fighting in the Struma Valley in the area of Tumbitza Farm.   The Battalion lost one officer  (Captain D K Garnier) and 33 other ranks killed.
