GWL 15th November 1916

The rain has stopped for  bit and to-day & yesterday were lovely.  I went into the town to-day and had my hair cut!  Met a sailor man who was in Malta with us and had lunch with him & went and saw his submarine.  A most interesting day.  The boat has done many wonderful things, in the Dardanelles in particular……….”

A total of 13 submarines from the British, French and Australian navies took part in the Dardanelles campaign and their actions were one of the few success stories of the campaign.  Probably the best known was the Australian boat AE2 which was the first to successfully navigate through the Straights.
