GWL 11th June 1916


A very windy day.  Yesterday quite the warmest day we have had, but thank goodness we get cool nights.  The drill is very nice, though we are not really allowed to wear it, because the men have not got it.  Most exciting books you have sent me lately.  Very thrilling and I love them.  Especially the one about the “dear little thing”, who was continually shot at, dragged along the bottom of the sea & torpedoed.  She was life alright.  What have you got yourself for your birthday?  I wish I could get you something here.  Last night I played another little game of Nap.  Two hours solid work brought me in 3 Dr.

Thank goodness the Greek is getting it in the neck”.

The latter sentence probably refers to the Anglo-French naval blockade which was established on June 6th against the pro-German King.
