GWL 11th April 1916

……….I have seen quite a lot of Arthur the last few days.  It is very nice.  Also I saw Cyril Windeler.  He has been here since January but the first I heard of it was form Arthur a day or two ago…….. There is a zip over here now.  No bombing as yet.  He is some way off.  If he comes over M.G. Battery will open on him however high the bally balloon is.  Cyril wants me to go up in his balloon, think it safer down below.  He says it leaks all over.  Hugh Scruton turned up yesterday.  Very large and fine;  all over Military Crosses and things – Very pleasant.  Could you send me a couple of light coloured shirts and some collars?”

Cyril Windeler was the father of the Round the Island Yacht Race around the Isle of Wight and Hugh Scrutton had been decorated during the Hooge action in 1915.
