GWL 27th March 1916

I got a letter to-day of March 14th.  Isn’t it quick?  This  morning about 5 AM Hun suddenly turned up and began bombing like the devil.  It was quite heavy for about an hour and then it got light……. The note book will be most useful.  The crowd that come here are damned ignorant.  This show is not in any way permanent.  It will stop when we have trained enough or if something violent happens.  I have about 180 here all told.”

From the 26th – 28th the Allies held a conference in Paris which resulted in a declaration of unity between Belgium, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Russia, and Serbia.
