GWL 10th January 1916

The latest of your letters to arrive is that of the 27th.   I am so longing to hear that you have got one from me from here.  Just finished another strenuous three days on guard.  Our friend the enemy paid us a second visit the other day and bombed us from above.  No harm done.

Once more the dear P.O. people have succeeded in burning our mails.  This time it is 165 bags of mail from home.  Allah be praised that my breeches have come.  I am afraid much excellent food & baccy has gone up in smoke…..”

Elsewhere on the 8th the evacuation of Gallipoli had been completed.
