GWL 28th August 1915

Another lovely day.  Quite the hottest we have had so far.  Hun very quiet; last night one of them crawled up a little tree & started sniping, drat him.  He hit nothing and then we had a go at him and heard nothing further from him.  Whether he is defunct or not I don’t know.

We are waiting patiently for the confirmation of a lovely rumour that 6800 Turks have surrendered in Gallipoli.  Patience is a virtue, but I don’t think anyone gets fat on it;  do you?………There is a charming small puppy at Battalion HQ now; very fat and fierce.  He springs at you from behind corners and things……….”

The Gallipoli rumour sadly came to nought.
