Snowing”

Your letter of the 20th has arrived.  The parcel containing much fine food & a book, oh luxury, has been opened and is the process of destruction.  I am making great endeavours to see old Ion this time back; we failed last time.  We go back to our mud pie again to-night.  I wonder if it will be any better.  I should like to be in the best trench in Europe for a bit, just too see what it is like!  The Argylls got into a trench the other day and did not want to come out it was so good.  There is no news, so I will close”.

On this day the First Territorial Division from the North Midlands arrived in France.  Otherwise not a great deal to report.
